The beginning of this stage of the project!

I began this project on Valentines Day 2002. I had an idea that I was working off of from a college project. I was an adult student (if you can call 24 and adult) and my computer experience was non existent. I realized very quickly that I needed to figure out the wide world of the web. I began with a simple yahoo account. I played around and developed my profile and watched with curiosity. I received an email from a man named bob telling me I was cute and asked what I thought. When I opened his attachment there was a photo of his penis. I was Amazed! Astonished! Fascinated! and asking myself.... why would someone do that. Who is this person? Why would he think I would want to see his penis?

I thought and thought and thought about that image with that same question for months knowing I had to respond in the only way I know how. So, I began by posting on my profile "Please send me pictures of your penis". With complete surprised, no shock! I received over 700 images from over 700 men. I knew I had to do something with this information. So, I decided to print the images and sew them together to make a quilt. I called this project "Insecurities".
